Nov. 19 — Event at the El Presidio Plaza in downtown Tucson The Great American Smokeout is a national one-day event held every third Thursday of November in order to encourage smokers to quit smoking for the day. It is also an opportunity to reach out to smokers and give them information and resources on tobacco cessation. The goal of this year's event is to encourage and motivate Pima County employees and the general public who smoke to quit for one day and to increase awareness of the benefits of tobacco cessation.
Pima County employees are invited to sign up for Commit to Quit! for the day. Any employee signed up will receive a "survival kit" and information on tobacco cessation via inter-office mail. The event takes place on Nov. 19 from 11am to 1pm at the El Presidio Plaza in downtown Tucson. Pima County Wellness will work with Pfizer, the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, City of Tucson, Arizona Smokers Helpline and the ALA to deliver information in printed form; give free peak flow tests, blood pressure screenings, piCO tests, and COPD paper screenings.
